However, some supplements can become contaminated during manufacturing or due to incorrect labelling. Ultimately, it is your responsibility as an athlete to decide what you ingest. Can a Sports Perfomance Nutritionist recommend medications?
No. A sports nutritionist DOES NOT have the authority to prescribe medication, due to a concept called prescriptive authority.
Prescriptive authority refers to the ability of healthcare professionals to prescribe medications. According to federal law, the primary healthcare providers authorised to write prescriptions are physicians, specifically those with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) credential.
